Trades Top of Their Class at Mission Bay School

On Friday, November 8, we visited the Mission Bay School jobsite, which is located near the Chase Center on the east side of the City, to check out the progress on what will become the latest addition to the SFUSD system.
What we found was an impressive range of tradespeople representing their crafts, all of them hard at work and seemingly loving every minute of it. Everyone from sheet metal workers, painters, and operating engineers to laborers, electricians, and carpenters were out in full force.
The Mission Bay School project comes courtesy of an SF Building Trades Council-negotiated project labor agreement with SFUSD, which designated Mission Bay Parcel 14 as a new school site for the up-and-coming SF neighborhood from which the new school takes its name. It’s all thanks to the 2016 Proposition A bond program that this council helped to pass eight years ago.
Design-build contractors McCarthy and DLR Group are delivering the project with Swinerton as the construction manager for SFUSD.
The school is expected to open next August.
